January 2, 2010 Step Up 2 Green's eco-home certification picks up steam Another step is recruiting and training inspectors to certify SU2G improvements. On the private side, Carmel design and remodeling firm Renovations is certified to perform SU2G award inspections. It's also offering initial consultations to review modifications needed to achieve SU2G awards. The first 10 homeowners to contact Renovations about the service will receive free assessments, a $300 value.
October 9, 2009 Latest Trend in 'Green' Home Decor If you walk into a freshly painted room these days and feel like there's something missing, you might very well be right. What's often omitted, thanks to eco-friendly paints, is the smell. VOCs are one of the factors creating indoor pollution, as gases from paint dissipate into the air, a process that can occur months or even years after the paint is applied. Exterior paints have the same effect, but because they're used outside, the homeowner isn't impacted on a day-to-day basis. When it's indoors, you can't get away from it. "You're breathing that every day," said Penny Butler, general manager of the green-certified business Renovations Design & Remodeling in Carmel Valley, California. "It's all about the indoor air quality."
